Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Collaborating Institution

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has the lead federal role in managing Canada’s fisheries and safeguarding its waters. The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), a Special Operating Agency within DFO, is responsible for services and programs that contribute to the safety, security, and accessibility of Canada’s waterways.

Ocean Networks Canada works closely with many DFO scientists to plan experiments and share results. The Canadian Coast Guard has provided generous ship time aboard the CCGS Tully and CCGS Vector, supporting observatory installation and maintenance work. Ocean Networks Canada also hosts data gathered by DFO drifters in the Arctic waters of Nunavut; these data are available through our data search and download facilities. More recently, ONC and DFO have entered into collaboration agreements to work on pilot projects related to glider data management, hydrophone data management, fisheries science reporting and the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System.
