For Communities

Engaging in Ocean Science

If you want to learn more about ocean science and technology, connect with experts, or participate in current ocean science research, Ocean Networks Canada makes it possible with the following resources and opportunities.

Your Community Observatory

Community observatories are scaled-down versions of Ocean Networks Canada’s existing major observatories (i.e. NEPTUNE and VENUS) that still allow for year-round, continuous undersea monitoring of physical, chemical, biological, and geological aspects of the ocean. Installed in shallower coastal waters, community observatories already operate in a number of locations in British Columbia and the Canadian Arctic, and the network is growing.
