Many instruments are deployed on large rectangular frames on the seafloor, commonly referred to as instrument platforms. Co-locating different instruments is useful to collect different types of data at a particular location. For instance, groups of instruments are installed on Mobile Platforms such as ships, remotely operated vehicles (ROV) and gliders to record conditions as they move above, or in the water column. In some cases, person may actually act as an instrument platform, carrying a group of instruments and collecting data from various sampling sites.
