Kitamaat Village

Kitamaat Village is located at the head of Douglas Channel on the North Coast of British Columbia within Haisla Territory. The word 'Kitamaat,' meaning people of the snow, comes from the Tsimshian people, who originate from the Prince Rupert and Metlakatla areas. The Kitamaat Village - Haisla Territory Community Observatory shore station is located along the waterfront in the village. As coastal communities face a wide range of rapid environmental changes, real-time data from cabled observatories can be used by community members when making informed decisions about their coastal and marine resources.
